Compared with this, the similar “Princess Diaries” is a tough-minded work of realism, yet on its own narrow terms “What a Girl Wants” works well enough. It has a decided plus in its appealing young star, Amanda Bynes, last seen opposite Frankie Muniz in “Big Fat Liar.” What Bynes’ 16-year-old Daphne wants is a father. Her band-singer mother, Libby (Kelly Preston), and her British father, Henry (Colin Firth), crossed paths in a Moroccan desert, fell in love and had a Bedouin wedding ceremony. But back in London, free-spirited Libby was overwhelmed by Henry’s aristocratic family, which was in turn aghast at her hippie-like unsuitability. The sudden death of Henry’s politically powerful father turned Henry into Lord Dashwood, and his late father’s wily advisor, Alistair Payne (Jonathan Pryce), maneuvered a pregnant Libby into decamping to the U.S. ADVERTISEMENT Seventeen years pass, with mother and daughter living picturesquely in an apartment in New York’s Chinatown. Libby and her band play at weddings, where Daphne works as a waitress. Libby encourages her daughter to plan for college, but first Daphne takes off to London to seek out the father who does not know she exists. In the meantime, Henry is running for office and could in time become prime minister. Alistair is not only managing the campaign, but also maneuvering his aggressive daughter (Anna Chancellor), who has an equally obnoxious daughter (Christina Cole) Daphne’s age, into becoming Lady Dashwood. Daphne scales the walls of the vast ancestral Dashwood estate and easily charms Henry and his mother (Eileen Atkins). Daphne’s all-American spontaneity wins over the aristos but also causes a sufficient number of inadvertent calamities to require Henry to remind her of the duties that go along with being a Dashwood. Naturally, Daphne wants her father to win the election, but along the way she discovers the importance of being herself. As a reworking of 1958’s “The Reluctant Debutante,” starring Sandra Dee and Rex Harrison, “What a Girl Wants,” which was directed by Dennie Gordon and written by Jenny Bicks and Elizabeth Chandler, is likely to seem short on subtlety and credibility to anyone over 13. One can accept that Henry’s sense of duty and feelings of rejection prevented him from running after Libby, and Libby’s pride in raising Daphne on her own is believable. But how for a second could the intelligent and charming Henry let himself become engaged to such an obvious social-climbing barracuda as Chancellor’s Glynnis, with her shallow snob of a daughter? And there’s no explanation as to why Henry’s sensible mother so quickly opens her heart to Daphne when she apparently did not do the same with Daphne’s likable mother. Gordon manages some heart-tugging and some humor, and works in a down-to-earth boyfriend for Daphne (Oliver James), but the make-believe becomes increasingly just that. However, “What a Girl Wants” could just be the kind of fantasy more than one will want to see. ‘What a Girl Wants‘ MPAA rating: PG for mild language Times guidelines: Suitable for all ages Amanda Bynes … Daphne Reynolds Colin Firth … Henry Dashwood Kelly Preston … Libby Reynolds Eileen Atkins … Jocelyn Dashwood Anna Chancellor … Glynnis Payne Jonathan Pryce … Alistair Payne A Warner Bros. He made his debut in William Steig’s 1990 children’s book, about a cheerfully ugly monster who’s “tickled to be so repulsive,” that has become something of a classic. ADVERTISEMENT As the more wised-up version of that wised-up modern fairy tale, “Shrek,” the film, is all comic attitude, all the time. Casual, carefree, consistently amusing, it plays a lot like the earlier “Aladdin,” which Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio, lead writers and co-producers here, also wrote. Like “Aladdin,” which did wonderful things with Robin Williams as the irrepressible genie, “Shrek” is blessed with Eddie Murphy as a motor-mouth donkey named, well, Donkey. Though his sidekick work in “Mulan” seemed forced, Murphy (taking off from a script by Elliott & Rossio and Joe Stillman and Roger S.H. Schulman) is spectacular here, and he’s in good company. Mike Myers, using a Scottish accent that echoes one of his Austin Powers characters, brings not only sharp comic timing but also a kind of sensitivity to the role of Shrek, an ogre who’s more troubled by the world’s disdain than he was in the book. And Cameron Diaz is appropriately feisty as Fiona, a princess with a secret and a woman who hasn’t let being trapped in a tower affect her attitude or her style. Though Steig’s book did without a classic villain, “Shrek” adds a dandy one in Lord Farquaad, a tiny Richard III type (wonderfully voiced by the tall John Lithgow) whose enormous head is packed with evil thoughts, like how best to give the third degree to a gingerbread man who’s reluctant to talk. Farquaad is the ruler of a super-sanitized place called Duloc, which he’s determined to turn into the most perfect kingdom on earth. (Any resemblance between Duloc and a certain amusement park run by “Shrek” producer Jeffrey Katzenberg’s former employer is probably not coincidental.) As part of this quest for perfection, Farquaad places a bounty on fairy-tale characters like Pinocchio and the Three Bears and forcibly exiles them. Donkey is one of them, and when he’s saved by Shrek, whom he admires as “a mean, green fighting machine,” he decides the two of them should be buddies. “Freaks got to stay together,” he declares, adding, with perfect animated logic, “every monster needs a sidekick.” Shrek doesn’t quite see it that way. He’s a privacy-loving Garbo type who just wants to be left alone, which is why he keeps his property posted with “Beware of the Ogre” signs. So when all those dispossessed fairy-tale types invade his swamp, Shrek stamps off to Farquaad’s castle to complain. That miniature man is having crises of his own. His magic mirror informs him that to have the perfect kingdom, he must marry a princess. In one of “Shrek’s” many pop culture references, the mirror parodies “The Dating Game” by presenting him with a choice of three bachelorette princesses, including one, Snow White, who comes with the advisory “though she lives with seven other men, she’s not easy.” Farquaad settles on Fiona, and when Shrek presents his case, he tells the ogre that he can have his swamp back if he rescues the princess from her dragon-guarded castle. So off Shrek sets on what turns out to be a most unconventional quest with the determined Donkey, “a dumb, irritating, miniature beast of burden” tagging along. “Yes, he talks,” Shrek says of his annoying companion. “It’s getting him to shut up that’s the trick.” ”Shrek’s” pair of first-time directors, Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, keep the pace brisk enough to balance flatulence jokes with an earnest theme about being comfortable with who you are. The team also makes good use of advances in computer technology that allows human creatures to look more like flesh and blood. The film also shrewdly utilizes pop classics like “Try a Little Tenderness,” “You Belong to Me” and “On the Road Again” to simultaneously underline emotion and appeal to the parents of the film’s intended audience. Some of “Shrek’s” best moments, however, are when it goes off message and simply fills the screen with sharp riffs on the fairy-tale characters it keeps running across. There’s fun to be had with three blind mice as well as three little hip-hop pigs, and a classic run-in with Robin Hood and his chorus line of merry men that includes a great visual reference to “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” Smartly constructed to appeal to children and their parents, this fractured fairy tale not only knows there’s no substitute for clever writing, it also has the confidence to take that information straight to the bank. * Shrek, 2001. Directed perceptively and energetically by Adam Shankman, this sequel to the 2003 hit is as shiny as a Christmas tree ornament yet gives full rein to Steve Martin’s warm but sophisticated, richly nuanced talent and shows to advantage a large cast featuring Bonnie Hunt, Eugene Levy and Carmen Electra. ADVERTISEMENT Sam Harper’s clever script turns upon a universal tug, which is the reluctance of parents to let their kids go. Faced with the news that pregnant daughter Nora (Piper Perabo) and her husband (Jonathan Bennett) will be moving to Houston and that daughter Lorraine (Hilary Duff) is off to New York, Martin’s Tom Baker decides the family should have one last vacation together, at their beloved Lake Winnetka, Wis. The Bakers’ 12 kids are reluctant, but Dad, with a nudge from Mom (Hunt), persuades them to agree to the plan. Clearly, the Bakers, based in the Chicago area, haven’t vacationed there for some years, and the remorseless course of change that gives this comedy its shading hits home when they’re faced with the ramshackle condition of the place they so enjoyed in the past. Tom rallies the troops, but a more daunting prospect looms across the lake: a lavish log palace, only slightly smaller than Old Faithful Inn, constructed by Tom’s lifelong rival, Jimmy Murtaugh (Levy), who has but eight children, about a zillion bucks, a gorgeous third wife (Electra) and who now owns almost the entire resort community. Murtaugh’s strict discipline has resulted in offspring who excel at everything but experience feelings of mounting rebellion toward their obnoxious martinet father. Since childhood Jimmy has been jealous of Tom for his popularity, especially with girls, and, to be sure, this ancient rivalry will flare up, but not before the Baker and Murtaugh children get to know and like each other. To his credit, Shankman smoothly forges a cast of some 25 principals to form an engaging ensemble with the focus on Martin and Levy’s deft sparring. Hunt is graciously understated as a wise wife and mother, but what helps lift the film above the usual is the way in which Electra’s Sarina is written and played. Despite her spectacular looks, Sarina refuses to be a mere trophy wife, wishes her husband would grow up, wants genuinely to be a good stepmother and asks Hunt’s Kate for advice. Electra is delightful: She helps humanize Levy’s overbearing Jimmy and thereby gives the film an unexpected dimension. Many families are likely to find “Cheaper by the Dozen 2″ a holiday treat. ‘Cheaper by the Dozen 2′ MPAA rating: PG for some crude humor and mild language Times guidelines: Appropriate family fare A 20th Century Fox release.

Men in Black II is one of those sequels that you’ll probably like if you really liked the first chapter, but won’t if you didn’t. It delivers the goods in the humor and special effects, which are the main reasons that the first film was such a success. This second outing gives you more of the same, but never more than that. However, the freshness of the material is gone, as is the sense of discovery and wonder the first film had going for it as the initial entry in the series. It’s also a needless sequel, although inevitable given how much Men in Black grossed, that will only truly satisfy people who saw the first and clamored for more.

Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones, Space Cowboys) is retired, having been neutralized, living out his days as a postmaster in a small town in Cape Cod. The agent he took under his wing, J (Will Smith, Ali), must seek him out and upload his memories in order for him to battle an alien he had a run in with many years before that now seeks to destroy the Earth.

Men in Black II’s sole reason to exist is to make money for the studio, make no mistake about it. I would guess they hoped they’d make enough money to justify a third entry, so they did put some effort into it, but with so much money at stake, it also appears that they were very conservative in terms of making this a different experience than the first film. Like the Men in Black, the plot takes a backseat to the creation of funny-looking aliens and blow-you-away special effects, and once these elements are introduced, there’s very little emphasis on making us care about the resolution of the plot, when it finally does appear. MIB2 spends about as much time with said plot as with the opening and closing credits; the rest is mere set-up and eye candy.

Men in Black 2 is fast-food entertainment, meant to be quickly consumed with minimal overhead. At 85 minutes, it doesn’t particularly overstay its welcome, but it’s also not meaty enough to remember long after you see it. As mentioned previously, I can recommend this only for people who love the first film, or who are just itching for escapist entertainment without wanting something too heavy to think about. Tolerable enough as a cotton-candy diversion, but quite mediocre for a big-budget Hollywood blockbuster.
Men in Black full divx movie
download Men in Black avi movies
avi movies
full lenth Men in Black movies
divx movi
watch full movies online
watch divx movies

Humphrey Bogart, for instance, has a certain harsh edge to him; when playing the hero, he’s a little cold and ruthless, although there is a core of decency in all his characters.Seeing that core so close to the surface is more than a bit disconcerting; even more unusual than seeing Bogart in color. As the movie starts, he’s a humbled director on his last chance, and as it continues, he becomes the friend and confidant of Maria Vargas (Ava Gardner). It’s really Gardner’s film, anyway, even though Bogart gets top billing. The problem is (and it’s the worst problem a movie can have), this film is boring. None of the characters are particularly interesting, and the conflict that drives the last act of the movie (and leads to the funeral that opens it) strikes me as ridiculously contrived, though that may be applying twenty-first century standards to a fifty-year old film. Still, even if you’re against premarital sex, not telling your young, sensual girlfriend about your impotence before the wedding is something of an idiot plot. Writer/director Joseph L. Mankiewicz also makes the mistake of seldom letting us see Maria except as others see her; she remains an enigma but not a particularly interesting one. Indeed, we are often told how men are enraptured by her but the why doesn’t always come through. The Hollywood/show business satire is also tame by current standards, and probably by the standards of the day, as well. What really gets me? "The Barefoot Contessa" is such a great title. Someone should remake this so that there’d be a film that lives up to that name.
divx movie trailer
divx movie trailer
watch new movies
movie download
watch videos
download Barefoot Contessa, The movie trailers
divx Barefoot Contessa, The video

From Horace Greeley to “Little Miss Sunshine,” Americans have been finding themselves on the journey west, seeking uncharted territory they can call their own. But the landscape of “Wild Hogs” is cluttered with the comic equivalent of suburban sprawl, an endless cyclorama of rehashed jokes and whiny complaint. A reformed party animal with a neurotic wife and a disdainful teen son, Doug (Tim Allen) is smothering in his suburban straitjacket. Ditto his high school buddies: Bobby (Martin Lawrence), a henpecked househusband whose wife treats him like a disobedient pup, and Dudley (William H. Macy), a high-strung computer geek whose attempts to interface with the opposite sex inevitably end in a catastrophic crash. Woody (John Travolta) would seem to have struck it rich, but it seems his supermodel wife is in the process of divorcing him, taking what’s left of his money with her. ADVERTISEMENT For years, these weekend warriors have burnished their masculinity with periodic spins on their barely used motorcycles, but their synchronized midlife crises dictate a more radical change of scenery: a real-life road trip from Cincinnati to the coast, complete with fatty foods and more male bonding than you can shake an Allen wrench at. Lest the spectacle of four leather-clad men sleeping under the stars start to seem a little, well, Freudian, “Wild Hogs” provides a constant stream of opportunities for these uneasy riders to demonstrate their heterosexuality. The innuendoes of a buff motorcycle cop (John C. McGinley) provoke a fit of panicked crotch-clutching, and when they’re confronted by a gang of real-life bikers, Bobby says with a shudder, “Does anyone else get that pre-rape feeling?” The filmmakers needn’t have worried, since evidence of intimacy among the men is in short supply. Apart from Macy, who cannily underplays his gawky nebbish, the movie’s leads are palpably incapable of sharing scenes with each other. They act as if they’re in different movies, and given the movie’s tendency to strand them in isolating close-ups, they might as well be. There’s no sense that these men have known each other for days, let alone decades. Desperately needing an antagonist to provide them with a sense of purpose, the fumbling foursome run afoul of the Del Fuegos, a band of outlaw bikers headed by Ray Liotta’s tattooed snarler. Soon enough, there’s a small town to defend from the Del Fuegos’ bad intentions, complete with a comely diner owner (Marisa Tomei) who takes a shine to Dudley and a well-meaning but inept sheriff (Stephen Tobolowsky) who desperately needs the help of a few good men. Or, in a pinch, a few paunchy, punchy suburbanites with nothing to lose but their last shreds of dignity. By the time it sputters across the finish line, “Wild Hogs” feels as if it’s gone on forever — like a trip in a hot car with the windows rolled up. The air is stale and hard to breathe, and it sure feels good when it’s over. “Wild Hogs.” MPAA rating: PG-13 for crude and sexual content, and some violence.
“The Last King of Scotland,” directed by acclaimed documentary filmmaker Kevin Macdonald from a screenplay by Peter Morgan and Jeremy Brock, is a powerful thriller that deftly mixes fact and fiction to recreate on screen the world of Uganda under the dictatorship of Idi Amin. Based on Giles Foden’s award-winning novel of the same name, it offers two unforgettable portraits: one of a charismatic but psychopathic ruler who ravaged his country and the other of a witness to history who finally finds the courage to make a stand. The film’s title is inspired by Idi Amin’s love of all things Scottish based on his personal experience soldiering alongside Scotsmen in the King’s African Rifles and his respect for the Scottish people whom he perceived as having been oppressed by the British just as Ugandans had.

When handsome Scottish physician Nicholas Garrigan (James McAvoy), fresh out of medical school, arrives in Uganda, he’s looking for excitement, romance and the joy of helping a country that truly needs his medical skills. Shortly after his arrival, however, he’s summoned to the scene of a bizarre car accident involving the country’s newly installed leader, Idi Amin, and an unfortunate cow. He boldly takes charge of the chaotic situation and impresses Amin by his brazen forthrightness. Already obsessed with Scottish history and culture, Amin takes an instant liking to Garrigan and soon afterwards offers him an appointment as his personal physician.

Thus starts Garrigan’s bizarre odyssey into the inner circle of one of Africa’s most horrific reigns of terror. The young doctor is seduced by Amin’s charismatic personality, his ambitious plans for Uganda, and his passion for fast cars, beautiful women and glamorous parties. And as time goes on, he is seduced by his own desire for power, becoming the dictator’s confidante, consultant and right hand man. As he bears witness to increasingly unsettling events from kidnappings to assassinations to unspeakable atrocities in which he is in some ways complicit, he finds himself trapped in the moral abyss of Amin’s murderous megalomania. When he finally dares to try to stop the insanity, he winds up in a desperate fight for survival.

“The Last King of Scotland” marks the first wholly dramatic film from Oscar-winning documentarian Macdonald. His previous two films were “Touching the Void,” a breathtaking tale of mountain survival, and the Academy Award-winning “One Day in September,” that dealt with terrorism at the 1972 Munich Olympics. Like the prize-winning, fact-inspired novel upon which it’s based, “The Last King of Scotland” is a suspenseful tale of terror and survival that meshes Dr. Garrigan’s fictional moral dilemmas with shocking real life stories from Amin’s rule and follows the tradition of classic thrillers set against a real backdrop, such as “Salvador” and “Missing.” It’s a timeless story of a young man going out to seek adventure, losing himself along the way, and then finding redemption. It’s also very relevant because you see this kind of history repeating itself today.

Drawing on his documentary background and experience, Macdonald raises some provocative questions in the film, such as: How does one respond to the seductive influence of power?, Do you bend or forget your own moral code to achieve it?, and What happens to someone who starts with good intentions and ends up becoming a blood thirsty individual? What makes the film resonate is how it treats its riveting subject matter, Idi Amin, as a human being, albeit a very flawed human being, who wanted to be a visionary but who fell victim to his own delusions. It accomplishes this by exploring the fascinating and emotionally complex relationship that develops between Dr. Garrigan and Idi Amin told from the perspective of Dr. Garrigan. The script reveals the Jekyll and Hyde nature of Amin’s character and allows the audience to see both the seductive man who was loved as much as he was feared, and the angry, delusional dictator who was a dangerous madman.

Whitaker bears an uncanny resemblance to Amin and brings tremendous range and realism to his electrifying performance. He evokes Amin’s complex personality – one that is at once charming, menacing and murderous – in a very authentic way. Whitaker captures both the largeness of the character and the danger while focusing on the more human qualities of Amin’s thwarted dreams and out-of-control fears. Instead of turning Amin into a stereotype, Whitaker makes the role his own by avoiding impersonation and embodying the essence of the man to bring him to full three-dimensional life. We see Amin’s good side and his humanity as well as the unsettling aspects of him where people never know where they stand or if he is going to laugh with them or going to kill them. What makes Whitaker’s portrait of Idi Amin so effective is that he’s a mellow, gentle person on the surface so when he explodes into the more irrational Idi, it’s truly scary. Whitaker embodies all of Amin’s immense paradoxes in a phenomenal performance that is truly Oscar worthy.

In an equally impressive turn, rising young Scottish star James McAvoy plays the fun-loving and sometimes rash Dr. Garrigan who has no idea what he’s getting into when he agrees to become Amin’s personal physician. McAvoy’s character is a composite of a number of Westerners who became close to Idi Amin, including a former British soldier who was widely viewed as one of Amin’s most trusted advisors. His character is also inspired by the fact that Amin actually had a Scottish physician. McAvoy imbues his character with a youthful energy and humor that keeps the audience with him as he descends into an increasingly dark journey and goes through a huge array of emotions and situations. He appears in nearly every scene in the film and draws on his considerable skill as an actor to show how easy it is to be seduced and then to suddenly realize you’re in the middle of a very dark and dangerous situation. In a truly career-turning performance, McAvoy makes Garrigan feel like a real human being, not just the lens through which you see the story.

Garrigan is an interesting and compelling character right from the start. He is the personification of all the people who fell in love with the monster who was Idi Amin and woke up to see they had created a nightmare. Garrigan starts out wanting to see the world, to have a real adventure, and when he first starts working in Uganda in a hospital, he realizes it might not be as glamorous and exciting as he thought and he’s scared that his life will become boring. When he meets the charismatic, iconic Idi Amin, he’s intoxicated by the power that Amin represents and by extension offers him, and he allows himself to be convinced by Amin that he can indeed make a difference in the country. Garrigan naively impacts Uganda much more than he ever intended, and through his selfishness, vanity and ego, makes huge mistakes that are unintentionally destructive.

Gillian Anderson plays the mission clinic doctor’s attractive and lonely wife, Sarah, whose decency and kindness make it nearly impossible for her to face her own unmet desires. When she meets Nicholas, there are immediate sparks and a brief, romantic dalliance, but when he goes away to work for Idi Amin, she sees him in a different light. Kerry Washington portrays Kay Amin, one of the polygamous Idi Amin’s several wives, who becomes involved in an illicit and dangerous affair with Dr. Garrigan when he turns to her for solace as his world begins to fall apart. Washington’s performance is complex and compelling, and the chemistry between McAvoy and her is palpable. The supporting cast also includes Simon McBurney (Stone), David Oyelowo (Dr. Junju), Stephen Rwangyezi (Jonah Wasswa), Abby Mukiibi (Masanga), and Adam Kotz (Dr. Merrit).

“The Last King of Scotland” was shot entirely on location in Uganda and reflects the unique feel of the country with its modernist architecture from the 50s and 60s, the lush countryside, and sense of history. The technical elements are all first rate. The production team includes cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle, production designer Michael Carlin, editor Justine Wright, and costume designer Michael O’Connor. Mantle gives the film a strong, gritty style that evokes contemporary thrillers despite covering events that took place in the 70s. The look of the film has a much edgier feel than what you would normally expect in a classic story about Africa. Using Steadicams and hand-held cameras rather than working with dollies and cranes, the director and cinematographer reveal an eye for detail and motion. Their free flowing style, along with the fine performances and Wright’s stellar editing, results in a very visually intense and beautiful film that captures the magic of being in the place where all this happened. Many of extras in the film actually knew Idi Amin and lived under his regime. Their presence adds a level of authenticity that would not have existed had the film been shot elsewhere.

While “The Last King of Scotland” appears on the surface to be a wonderful historical narrative about very specific historical events in Uganda, it’s really about human relationships and the consequences these events had on real people’s lives – the very intimate, personal, emotional effects of violence. What makes the story so fascinating is that nothing is black and white. Bad men don’t always do evil things and good men don’t always do good things, and the ruin of a country is a complex thing that involves both good and bad intentions.

“The Last King of Scotland” is an unforgettable tale and unconventional biopic that examines a fascinating historical figure through the eyes of a fictional character. The film is brilliantly directed, written and acted and is one of the best films of this year.

It?s also the perception that comes with timing and a public?s awareness of what they should pay attention to. For example, if Cuba Gooding Jr. had starred in this movie instead of Will Smith, it would be forgotten about and likely snickered at before any screening could confirm or deny our suspicions. On the other hand, if it was Gooding right after Jerry Maguire instead of after Chill Factor, Snow Dogs and Boat Trip, we may have given it the benefit of the doubt. But it is Smith, probably referred to as the most ?clean? and ?wholesome? black man in America since the days of The Cosby Show. And its back to the 80s we go when rags-to-riches was a popular axiom of the Reagan years for the story of a man who did just that and is now being told 25 years later when movies-of-the-week are no longer an event but a punchline that keeps them where they belong. This is the part of the review I call ?the plot synopsis.? In 1981, Chris Gardner (Will Smith) had invested his family?s savings in selling portable bone-density scanners to doctors and hospitals. He soon discovered that most would have no use for this ?luxury? and with a son (Jaden Smith, Will?s real son) to care for, his wife (Thandie Newton, contorting her angry face in more positions than her role in Beloved) would have to work multiple shifts to keep them afloat. One day he crosses paths with the nicest man ever to own a fancy red sports car. Friendly banter reveals this man to be a stockbroker, a profession whose only two qualifications are told to being good with numbers and people; or the same qualifications for a game show host. Chris is quite the braggart in his narration to us, telling us how great he was in school and how smart he can be when he was given the chance. Little did he know that the invention of the Rubik?s Cube would be the major catalyst in his life.Having applied for an internship with Dean Witter (a position he was unaware would come without pay, but apparently in reality paid $1,000 a month), he impresses one of the program?s handlers with his expert-level solving of the puzzle and gets an interview. Meanwhile, his wife leaves him, he?s being evicted and getting arrested for unpaid parking tickets; a position which forces him to show up undressed, sweating and covered in paint. (For such a smart guy, it never dawns on him while he?s waiting to use the restroom sink.) Nevertheless, he wins them over with a combination of honesty, sincerity and a quick quip, giving Chris the opportunity to work his way towards a better life for him and his son. This is the part of the review I call ?the wrong.? Gardner?s story even in anecdote form is the stuff of underdog legends, but the film version is so obsessed with selling his struggle that one scene after another is some other hardship, injury, mistreatment or ill-timed distraction leading to misfortune. While it doesn?t quite reach a level of unintentional yuks, the hard luck rotation wouldn?t surprise us if he stepped in a puddle, fell on a rake and had a piano fall on his head after getting raped by a rabid rhinoceros. And after everything he?s been through, the film allows itself a payoff of such miniscule consequence that it may as well have just ended on a freeze frame with a title card explaining his success (although it does that too.) How ?bout an epilogue of Gardner standing in front of a new home with his son or buying him the Captain America doll that he lost while the boy looked upon his dad as the real hero? Hell, go to a nice restaurant, hook up with a white chick, just do something to satisfy those eager to applaud Gardner?s efforts.Maybe director Gabriele Muccino and screenwriter Steven Conrad purposely avoided glorifying any sort of gaudy excess of Gardner in the end considering there are more insert shots of homeless people than a Comic Relief concert. But the film carries such a middling attitude about them that its hard to believe they would now choose to be respectful and not rub Gardner?s work ethic in their panhandling faces. Other than the opening credits, the homeless are portrayed as linecutting, time travel-obsessed loons that are below the time-of-day set to Gardner?s watch (in real life he now wears two) especially when he becomes one of them. Perception again plays a role as we?re supposed to be on Gardner?s side as he jumps fare from a cab or flees after mangling a guy?s windshield, but expected to look unfavorably to the hotel manager who keeps asking for his money or the bud who owes Chris fourteen bucks. This is the part of the review I call ?the Bateman.? Further demonstrating its made-for-TV feel, it completely ignores all attempts at taking stabs at the various themes of greed and white power that cry out from the financial districts of the 80s. I?ve never in favor of using stereotypes to combat stereotypes, particularly when holding the Race Card ? but the obviousness of Gardner being the only black man in a white man?s world stands out like a lesion on an albino. A shot of a bunch of young people cavorting like hyenas in a convertible is the most ridiculous bit of point-driving in a film that is convinced of its own thematic insinuations. There?s an implied racism as the program?s teacher (Dan Castellaneta) keeps impeding Gardner with menial tasks like getting him coffee and parking his car (and a real crappy one compared to what the Ferrari represented earlier), but I would have jumped to action under the circumstances, too. I understand the drive to show Gardner?s dedication, but what he?s doing it all for gets lost in the process. The relationship with his son has a moment here and there, but without the payoff or the connection between their trip to a 49ers skybox and his desire to capture this for his son someday (absolutely no joy is displayed from the boy in this scene), all we?re left with is the struggle…to make it through a film without the benefit of commercial interruptions to rethink our choice. This is the part of the review I call ?the conclusion.? Will Smith is just fine in the role of Gardner. Fine, not Oscar-worthy as he?s being touted, in a film that?s just kinda there. (There are two shots of a DeNiro/Raging Bull ad that?s about as subtle as Gardner falling onto a golden statuette.) If Oscar voters miss the first breakdown, not to worry cause there?s a second one coming, both handled with fine restraint from Smith to contrast the marathon challenge he?s been presented with. No exaggeration necessary in saying that Smith runs more than Atanarjuat here. But it?s the screenplay that falters at the finish line, the stretch run and the quarter pole. Conrad, who wrote last year?s criminally underappreciated The Weather Man, has designed this script so delicately as to not challenge anyone with the implications of Gardner?s journey that it seriously could have been rated ?G? if not for the F-word written on the wall and later spoken by the boy. Scientists will someday discover this screenplay is so benign it could probably be used to battle tumors, just not the Oprah crowd that it?s going to be ragingly sold to, even if they continue to walk past the bucket drummers and bundled up hands outstretched on the streets of Chicago.
good movies to watch
watch Pursuit of Happyness, The videos
watch full length Pursuit of Happyness, The movies
download Pursuit of Happyness, The movie trailers
watch a video
watch movies on computer
full length vids

And after the movie ended, we were quite pleased of what we saw. I personally enjoyed the film, and I still find it hard to believe that writer-director Luc Besson wrote the script when he was 13, but hey, what?s wrong with that? I began writing a novel since I was 17, and I’m still working on it. I’ll let you know when I’ve finished it. Anyways, it was an enjoyable movie. Two hundred and fifty years in the future, life as we know it is threatened by the arrival of Evil. Only a religious cult, that at first worshipped aliens before the future -when they are revealed as aliens- know that they possess the only weapon against it. The four elements of life, that lay alongside a fifth element. And only the fifth element (played by Milla Jovovich) can stop the Evil from extinguishing life, as it has done every five thousand years. She is helped by ex-soldier, current-cab-driver, Corben Dallas (played by Bruce Willis), who is, in turn, helped by talk show radio host Ruby Rhod (Chris Tucker), and along for the ride are Father Vito Cornelius (Ian Holm), who is the guide of the fifth element on earth and the main priest of the religious cult. But for her to work, they need to find and retrieve the four other remaining elements, which are stones, so the cycle can be complete. Unfortunately, Evil is being assisted by Mr. Zorg (Gary Oldman) and his alien mercenaries, the Mangalores, who both seek to profit from the chaos that Evil will bring, but only if they find the stones for him. The very first appreciative things in the movie are the set decorations and the costumes. They’re colorful enough to give the atmosphere of a comic sci-fi flick, which was a nice and interesting touch. The music also helped since it’s very 23rd century too. One of the main ideas of the script will catch enough attention towards some people, like my dad and me, to make it a totally fun subject to discuss and compare. Now I’m not talking about the part of when evil returns, but about the religious people serving aliens, calling them "my lord," and worshipping them. It kind of brings you back into the long-discussed topic of the days of Moses and Ezequiel, and if God was God itself or an alien. If you’re keen enough, you’ll catch that amidst the fun and the suspense of the opening scenes, and discuss it along later. Though later in the film, a flaw appears, since it?s confusing that father Vito and his followers still worship the aliens, despite the time that they live in and the people?s knowledge that they’re aliens, not gods. I would’ve walked out of the sect a long time ago the first minute I found out about this.Another one of the little flaws that I caught was that the alien costumes, despite everything else, they looked unrealistic, and in fact didn’t look like aliens at all, but more like people in costumes. That kind of took the fun of many scenes, especially the Mangalore scenes, since they really looked fake. In most of them, if it wasn’t for the action, it brought a good chuckle. Plus, Zorg’s pet also didn’t look that real. The futuristic settings of the movie give you some remembrance feeling as if you were looking at a more modern and more realistic version of The Jetsons. High rise buildings above the smog, and air freeways of flying cars buzzing one over another. Not that they’re wrong though, but it sure looked interesting. The performances were okay; Bruce Willis was basically his average, no question about that. Ian Holm and Gary Oldman were of course great as always, although Oldman eclipses Holm in a way that he basically steals the show in almost every scene that he’s in, despite his accent. Milla Jovovich did his best in a tough role as the fifth element, but didn’t seem to pull it off as she was behaving too childishly. Chris Tucker as talk radio host Ruby, really got into my nerves and his acting really annoyed me. And as you can see in the film, he also annoyed Bruce. In the end, it?s basically a typical Sci-Fi action comedy, with some good twists and great colorful settings. It’s not that good of a movie but it still worth watching since its funny and entertaining. The only thing to watch for here is Tucker, who I really wanted him to fuck off and die, but that’s me. Lets see later how do you do, and feel.
divx Fifth Element, The video
download movies full length
watch a video
watch new movies
watch Fifth Element, The full movies online
Fifth Element, The videos for download
download full Fifth Element, The movies

Spaceballs *** (out of 5) (1987)

Cast: Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, Rick Moranis, John Candy, Mel Brooks

Directed by Mel Brooks

Needless to say, Mel Brooks has fallen off big time over the years, but there’s just enough left to pull out a few decent chuckles in this spoof of STAR WARS and other sci-fi films. The planet Spaceball is running low on air so their evil leaders plot to steal the air from the peace-loving planet of Druidia. The spaceballs kidnap Vespa, the Druish princess and attempt to ransom her for the air. The king of Druidia, and Vespa’s father, hires the mercenary Lone Star to save the day.

SPACEBALLS takes a while to find it’s footing, but does begin to pay off somewhere around the middle with some occasionally inspired satire. The choice of actors is second-rate, but at least there was no Harvey Korman appearance. Sure, for every funny moment, there are two groaners, but it’s all in goofy fun, and worth watching for a few key moments. Definitely a step below Brooks’ 70s work, however it’s still hard to dislike all the same.
